The paper analyzes the status quo of study on the application of altmetrics in the medical field from two aspects of index comparison between altmetrics and traditional metrology as well as their respective empirical study. It points out that altmetrics index is mainly utilized in medical field, and comes up with the challenges confronting altmetrics application in medical field, which include establishment of theoretical framework, quality of data and diversity of index, etc.
