Medical information education in China may date back to the early 1960s, and the normal education began in the middle 1980s. From 1985 to 1987, the four colleges including the Norman Bethune University of Medical Sciences set up the major of medical information and library one after the other, created a precedent for Chinese medical information education. After the development of near a half century, a large-scale and multi-level medical information education system constituted by college, undergraduate and graduate education with Chinese features has formed, and paid more and more attention by education field, academic field and department in charge. The paper briefly retrospected the development course of medical information education in China, analyzed the existing problems and explored its future development direction.
