The paper analyzes the information needs for invalid patents from the following perspectives: the understanding and concern degrees of invalid patents, current situation of generic drug research and development of the institutes, problems and solutions, etc. Based on the above information, it determines the contents of the library information services and explores into new service areas. Overall, the invalid patent information service has a strong user-attraction, it is necessary and with improvement space to carry out this kind of service to meet users′ demand.
