The paper elaborates on characteristics of medical big data, analyzes the application prospect of medical big data in clinical prediction, epidemiological monitoring, clinical examination and clinical diagnosis and treatment, and points out the beneficiary groups such as governmental departments, patients, medical personnel and healthy people and the potential challenges. Also, it indicates the importance of fully excavating and utilizing medical big data.
