The paper discusses new opportunities and challenges confronting modern medical informatics in four aspects of data, technologies, algorithms and application. From the perspective of discipline system, it analyzes relationships between modern medical informatics and ontology building, participatory medicine, data science, Artificial Intelligence(AI) and Internet-based medicine. At last, it forecasts the new study orientation in this field.
