The paper introduces the concept and principle of Institutional Repository(IR) and SWOT analysis method, and takes Kunming Medical University as an example to expound on the building strategy and characteristic function module design of IR based on SWOT analysis, points out that the building of IR is conducive to promoting knowledge innovation, academic exchanges and cooperation, and medical universities' "double first-class" building.
