Purpose/Significance To introduce American hospital library standards and discuss its enlightenment to Chinese hospital libraries. Method/Process The evolution of American hospital library standards and the content of the latest version—Standards of Practice for Hospital Libraries and Librarians, 2022 are introduced, which is compared with the previous version. The renewal of American hospital library standards and its enlightenment to Chinese hospital library undertakings are expounded. Result/Conclusion American hospital library standards cover more comprehensive contents, and put forward clear requirements and guidelines for the work of hospital library from the aspects of nature, personnel, service and technology. Some enlightenments have been given to the hospital library in China in such aspects as paying more attention to hospital libraries, formulating relevant industry standards, strengthening the regionalization and sharing of resources and services, attaching importance to improving the professional ability of librarians, rationally allocating human resources, expanding virtual library space, expanding service scope, strengthening service initiative, etc.
